An expression of my faith

An Expression of my Faith

Hello and welcome! I assume that if you are reading this you have been looking through my website and this piqued your interest or you found this through an internet search. Either way, I am glad that you are here. I want to use this opportunity and medium to express some of my deeply felt convictions concerning my faith. I hope you will read on.

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also called “Mormons” or “LDS”. I consider myself to be an active participant in the church. I attend as many of the general meetings that I can and accept “callings” or duties in the church when asked to do so.

I was baptized a member of the church at the age of 8, the “age of accountability” according to Mormon tradition. However, my mother was baptized on the same day I was and my father joined years later after more study and prayer. So, my family and I are considered “converts” to the church.

I feel that there are many facets to a conversion when it applies to accepting a new faith. There is, of course, the initial “leap of faith” when you decide to follow your heart and mind and make a significant change in your life. There are also the gradual, daily applications where you study, pray and use the new principles in everything you do to see how well it works. I am still working on my conversion.

I have a firm conviction that there is a God, a supreme, real, and living being that organized the elements into the universe. He is the Eternal Father, the creator of all the individual spirits, His children, on the Earth that he made. I feel certain that He knows me personally and loves me with a pure love.

Because of that love He called His Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem all man-kind from the eternal consequences of death and sin. I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior and Redeemer and Exemplar. He literally rose from death with a glorified body and has made it possible for all mankind to do the same.

I am convinced that I have felt the influence of the Holy Ghost. This member of the divine trio, or Godhead, does not have a tangible body, but has the incomprehensible ability to testify of God, the Father and Jesus Christ and teach and guide all those that are open to His influence.

I feel certain that The Father and Son have called prophets to be their representatives on the earth today as they did in ancient times. Joseph Smith was a prophet called in rather recent times to restore many principles that were lost after the death of the original Apostles. There are a prophet and apostles serving today.

Joseph Smith translated The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ with divine guidance. This book is precious to me! I am convinced of its divinely inspired origin and messages. As I read this book, along with my Bible and other scriptures, I gain a deeper insight into the marvelous works of our God and His Son. I gain better insights as to how to live my life and bless the lives of my family and friends.

I know that there is a vast array of religions, philosophies and lifestyles. What makes Mormonism any different?  I have thought about this a lot. I have examined many other religions, philosophies, and lifestyles. I acknowledge the good that is in them. However for my questions about the human experience I find the most and clearest answers in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

This is, in brief, an expression of my faith, my testimony. If you have read to this point, I would invite you to consider the thoughts I have shared and prayerfully ask God if this is something you should look further into. The Holy Ghost will guide you from there in ways that you will recognize as “real”. You can find basic Mormon teachings for the general public at www.mormon.org . I would also be happy to write to you about any sincere questions you may have of me. My address is randel.mcgee@comcast.net . Please mention “Expression of Faith” in the subject line. Thank you and may God bless you!
